First blog post! I just want to tell you a little bit about our life with aussies and border collies and invite you to follow us along on our new adventure!
Let's go back to the beginning. Way back. My childhood. I grew up in the countryside in the rolling hills of PA. We were in a very remote area and people would bring their unwanted dogs and drop them off near our house. So we always had dogs. All sorts of breeds. Some of them came to us pregnant. Then we had puppies to care for and find homes for to. We always had dogs. I don't recall a time in my life that we didn't have dogs.
Once I got married and moved into a home with my husband we started breeding AKC dogs. Boxers, then English Mastiffs. We loved both breeds! And we truly enjoyed our time with our dogs. We had issues with the boxers running off when we left them outside and hunting porcupines. And our English mastiffs we absolutely loved - but they kept killing our chickens and ducks. We have a small farm and they were certainly causing problems on the farm. As much as we loved the breed and our awesome dogs, they lived here with us till they were a ripe old age. After they were retired we stopped breeding English mastiffs all together. We only had one breeding pair. They were our babies. Once they passed of old age, there was no point to continue breeding english mastiffs and continue having our chickens and ducks killed. And by now we had 4 kids and a busy chaotic life.
Fast forward to 2017. We purchased our first border collie as a gift for our teen daughter. She was a little fluff ball! Our daughter fell quickly and madly in love! And so did we! She named her Xena. She was such a smart pup, loving, and very sweet. She reached us on a very emotional level. We all became very attached! With all the dogs I grew up with, and with the dogs that we bred (akc boxers, and akc english mastiffs) she fit our family so well and our personalities. She fit our lifestyle and is wonderful with our farm animals. The perfect pup! We decided we wanted to breed her and have some beautiful sweet puppies. But there was another breed that stuck in my mind that we had as a pet only in the past. Australian Shepherd. Thats when we decided to buy an aussie boy to add to our family and to hopefully breed to our sweet "Xena" so we'll have the best of both worlds .... border aussies.
We bought Koda (our standard size australian shepherd) in 2018 from a local australian shepherd breeder. He's our sweet boy! He's sweet like Xena, so smart, and super attentive. He loves our attention! He enjoys being loved on and follows our daughter like her shadow. He's an awesome dog! And awesome aussie! And his eyes ... he has eyes of amber and they're stunning! He's going to make an amazing stud! We have other breeders that are asking us to use him to stud with their girls. He's gorgeous!
Here we are now. Hoping for a litter of border aussies this summer/fall. This is where our adventure starts with breeding border aussies. And our next step is to also breed full blood aussies. We are investing our time and energy into doing this right. To us that means keeping our dogs up to date on their vet care, grooming care, and we're also having them professionally trained. It means lots of tender loving care and management. It means looking forward to some future fluff balls born to our spoiled rotten babies. They are not our hobby, or our business. They are our babies. They stay in the house with our family. They sleep with our daughter. They play in the yard running around with all of our kids. They're our babies and we want to combine their qualities and offer some little fluff ball puppies to others so they can have the same experience that we are lucky to have with these amazing dogs!
Stay tuned and follow us on this journey ... this adventure into raising amazing aussies and border aussies!
